Apple Insider Leaks Ugly New iPhone XR2

Superseding what we thought we knew and painting a bleaker picture is Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks), the world’s most accurate Apple insider. What’s the problem? Apple has decided to transplant the ugliest feature of the iPhone 11 onto the iPhone XR2 and it doesn’t even make sense.
Working with pricebaba, Hemmerstoffer’s renders show Apple will bring the large, protruding square camera hump of the iPhone 11 to the back of the iPhone XR2. Unlike the iPhone 11, however, which at least fills this monstrosity with a new triple camera array, the iPhone XR2 will have dual cameras and leave the rest of the hump as dead space. It’s like Apple wanted to save money by reusing molds, it’s a shocking decision.
In addition to this, Hemmerstoffer’s renders show the iPhone XR2 (name TBC, iPhone 11R is also being mentioned) will retain the thicker front bezels of its predecessor. This is because Apple will again stick with a low-resolution LCD panel, rather than move to OLED (a switch which is expected to happen in 2020).
The good news? Apple is retaining the same colorful finishes as the iPhone XR and, for many, I suspect dual cameras will be enough, with users happy to skip the new wide-angle module in exchange for saving several hundred dollars.
And yet, there’s no hiding the disappointment in this design. While the iPhone XR was refreshing in giving users a cheaper option, repeating the trick this year won’t be so impressive when the back of the device looks like a cheap knock-off and rivals are moving on from the notch. Yes, we know Apple has more radical designs with crowd-pleasing upgrades in development but 2019 looks set to be remembered as another year of iPhone iteration.
